In winter, the route is blanketed in snow and popular with beginners.
Birthi Falls
Located around 35 km before Munsiyari on the approach road, Birthi Falls is a stunning 126-metre cascade set in a rocky gorge. It's one of the most photogenic waterfalls in Kumaon and an excellent stop en route to the hill station.
Darkot Village
A short drive from Munsiyari, Darkot is a traditional Johari village known for producing high-quality hand-woven woollen goods. Walking through the village lanes and interacting with local weavers provides genuine cultural insight.
Milam Glacier Trek Base
Munsiyari is the last motorable point before the multi-day Milam Glacier trek, which follows the historic Johar valley trade route once used by traders crossing into Tibet. A permit from the Pithoragarh district administration is required for this trek.

How to Reach Munsiyari
The nearest railhead is Kathgodam, about 275 km away. From Kathgodam, take a shared or private taxi via Almora and Pithoragarh. The nearest airport is Pantnagar. The road journey from Kathgodam takes approximately 10–12 hours, passing through scenic Kumaon landscapes. The final stretch of road is winding and mountain terrain — plan for a full day of travel.
